Fish Husbandry, Isle of Skye

Overview:
An entry-level position in Aquaculture, the key responsibilities include: fish welfare monitoring, fish feeding, assisting with treatments, equipment maintenance and harvesting to work at our Isle of Skye production area. This site at Loch Pooltiel near Dunvegan was established in 2017 and has been steadily increasing production. In 2019 a new ScaleAQ 300T barge was installed, and since 2023, centralised feeding has allowed site staff to concentrate on husbandry tasks and maintain infrastucture on one of the world’s most unique trout farms, exposed to the strong currents of the Minch and growing trout that are unbeatable for their size, strength and quality.

Ideally you would have some fish husbandry experience and/or training in aquaculture or a relevant industry. Candidates with formal boat training will be at an advantage, and a driving licence is essential.

Our sea site roles all receive extensive training, which is paid for you by Kames, allowing you to grow fast in your aquaculture career, and the training provided will lead to other opportunities within Kames for personal growth and development.

In 2025 our founder Stuart Cannon received an MBE for his services to sustainable development in Scottish aquaculture, only the second time within the industry this honour has been bestowed and a testament to the pioneering spirit that runs through Kames.
