Husbandry Operator - Selcoth
We are seeking a Husbandry Operator to support the Site Manager at our fantastic broodstock and hatchery facility at Selcoth Fisheries in Dumfries.
The role requires performing daily husbandry tasks including feeding, vaccination operations, treatments, water quality monitoring, grading, sampling, live fish transfers, egg picking, mortality removal, housekeeping and maintenance.
In addition to this there will be seasonal broodstock work - broodstock selection, pit tagging and sampling, cryo freezing, stripping of eggs and triploidisation, and we would provide full training for this.
We will also require you to service and maintain vehicles and equipment, record-keep to standards required by our auditors, and safeguard the site, being available to respond to out of hours alarms and checks and keep the site maintained.
Selcoth is a well-established set up and won a sustainability award last year for its thoughtful and regenerative approach to trout farming. We have recently taken it on as a brood stock and hatchery for our fish, and the role will provide training within a supportive team.
The ideal candidate will be a good team player, with excellent attention to detail and interested in fish husbandry and welfare. We can provide full training but experience in aquaculture would be an advantage. Communication and health and safety awareness are essential.
Normal hours of work are Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, with an on-call and 1-in-3 weekend duty rota.
In return, Kames offers a competitive package of £28,000.
